Roberto Tapia
Capoeira
Roberto first fell in love with Capoeira on a visit to Bahia, Brazil. Upon returning to his native Chile, Roberto enrolled in the very first Capoeira School in Chile. After two years of practicing Capoeira in Chile Roberto returned to Bahia to further his studies with Mestre Railson of Capoeira Sul da Bahia. After many years of hard work, diligence and numerous trips to Brazil, Roberto became a "Capoeirista graduado" in 2000 enabling him to give Capoeira classes. Roberto believes in the power of Capoeira as a means of developing ones mind, body and soul combining dance, martial art and music.
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art which combines fighting, acrobatics, dance and music. It began in Brazil during the Portuguese colonial period when slaves developed this martial art camouflaged as a dance with the hopes of rebelling against their captors. Over the years Capoeira has progressed from a forbidden and marginalized art form to an accepted and revered part of Brazilian culture practiced by all classes, genders and races of people.
