Debra K. Floyd believes that Dance, creative movement—whatever one wants to name it—is an integral part of our everyday life. Spanning over 30 years, Debra's career as a dance artist has presented her with opportunities to perform, choreograph, and teach all over the United States as well as internationally. She has worked in Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Oakland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco; her experience abroad covers Paris, France; Martinique, Caribbean; and Havana, Cuba.

Debra began her dance training at an early age in Chicago, Illinois, and continued her artistic journey as a part of a double major in Dance and Physical Education and a minor in Classical Music. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, she went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Culture and Creation Spirituality with an emphasis on Women's Spirituality and Movement from Holy Names College in Oakland, California. Harold Nicholas, Bill T. Jones, Fred Benjamin, Yvonne Johnson, and N. Delores Cayou are among the many instructors from whom she has received professional training.

She has worked with several acclaimed choreographers including Talley Beatty, Donald McKayle, Diane McIntyre, Leon Jackson, and Tyrone Murray. While living in the California Bay area, Debra was a founding member of CitiCentre Dance Theatre and the Artistic Director of both Jazzy Feet Dance Studio and Middle Ground Dance Company, an all women's dance ensemble. Since moving to the DC area in the mid '90s, her choreography has been presented at numerous venues to include Jack Guidone Theater, Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Aaron and Cecile Goldman Theater, and Joe's Movement Emporium. Trained in American Sign Language, Debra has often incorporated this communication form into her choreography. In 2000, she founded FloydProject Dance Company, thereby continuing her mission to use dance as a vehicle for supporting women. The company of diverse women is emerging in the DC community and strives to build positive images, raise audience awareness of broad issues and empower people to uphold women and their aspirations.

Debra is presently teaching Jazz Dance Fusion at DC Dance Collective, Technique at DanceMakers Dance Studio, Jazz at Gallaudet University, Creative Movement, Tap, and Cardio/Weights at Georgetown Law School, and senior workouts at several DC locations. In addition to running her Internet-based business, RDF Marketing, she also conducts workshops and master classes, coaches other dance companies and dance professionals, and provides technique development training for child, teen, and adult students.
