Contemporary Dance Fusion

Katya Vasilaky started dance with Ukrainian Folk Dancing at 10, and then joined the School of American Ballet at age 11, performing with New York City Ballet while at the school. At 16 she became a member of the San Francisco Ballet Company. Following San Francisco Ballet, she earned a BA in Math and Economics at Columbia University in New York, and also started training in Limon and Graham while in NY. She continued to dance with members of the Graham Company, and Dura Mater dance. Since 2009 she has been competing in Smooth Ballroom, and took up the Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira, while working Uganda this past year. She is finishing her PhD in economics at the University of Maryland.
