Flamenco - Olivia Rassenti
Flamenco is the traditional song, music, and dance of Andalucia in southern Spain. For the gypsies of Andalucia, Flamenco is a way of life: the communal expression of all life's details sad or joyful, ugly or beautiful, mundane or extraordinary. As a child in a flamenco family, you are impregnated with flamenco rhythms and mesmerizing music, the lyrical tellings of the songs, and the emotional interpretations through the dance.

Tuesday 4:30pm - Olivia Rassenti
Class will focus on introducing the beginning concepts of Flamenco and working on the Sevillanas. Sevillanas is derived from an old Castillian folk dance called Seguidilla, and remains a very popular dance at festivals and in bars. The students will be guided through basic movements, which are then slowly put together like puzzle pieces. We learn to sing (cante), accompany the dancers with clapping (palmas), cheer on our classmates (jaleo) and work on basic arms, hands and footwork technique. (Brazeo, Flores y Taconeo). By learning to sing, clap, cheer and dance the children get a sense of the communal experience that is the heart of Flamenco. Parents, you are welcome to sign up for this class with your child.
